If you want to appear more youthful-looking - without appearing like you've had work done - then chances are Sculptra® may be a good choice for you. Sculptra® is a series of facial injectable treatments that help stimulate your skin to make more of its own natural collagen. Once injected, the microparticles are absorbed, and collagen production begins gradually over time.
As we age, we lose collagen, which acts as the skin’s support structure and helps maintain its shape. In fact, 70% of the skin is composed of collagen, and collagen loss causes the skin to lose its elasticity and moisture. A common misconception about facial aging involves the role of gravity. The real culprit is deflation (loss of volume and structure) rather than descent (drooping or sagging). The good news is that it’s possible to help boost the skin’s own natural collagen production.
Sculptra® is an FDA-approved poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) facial injectable treatment that helps gradually replace lost collagen - the most common protein in the body that is used to form the framework to support cells and tissue. While the Sculptra Aesthetic PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help collagen start to grow. Regrown collagen strands slowly begin to restore your skin's facial volume and in doing so, it subtly and gradually adds volume that lifts the soft tissues and plumps the skin from within.
Sculptra® is different than hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers because it is a biostimulator that addresses the loss of collagen from within.

Once injected Sculptra® works deep within the skin’s surface, and is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body to help stimulate collagen production to reinforce the skin’s inner structure and increase facial volume. The treatments do not change your appearance but rather maintain or restore a healthy thickness to the skin. Sculptra aesthetic® treatments can be combined with Dysport/Botox and Restylane. The results from Sculptra aesthetic® are natural-looking. It is the best anti-aging treatment for facial skin.
Collagen is the most common protein in the body that is used to form a framework to support cells and tissue. A healthy supply of collagen in the skin is the source of a smooth, youthful-looking complexion. Think of collagen-like springs in a mattress. Over time, the springs weaken and the mattress on top starts to sag and crease. Similar changes in our skin happen as a result of both natural aging and sun exposure.
Most clients will need a minimum of four vials. These vials can not be injected all at once. Usually, the vials are injected over three treatment sessions spaced one to two months apart. For example, at the first treatment session, two vials may be injected. Two months later one vial is injected and one month later another vial is injected for a total of four vials.
The injections are performed in the temples, cheeks, and chin area. Sculptra® is not used in the forehead or lips. Massage of the areas injected is recommended. The standard recommendation is to massage the areas five times a day for five minutes for five days.

Sculptra® is a series of facial injectable treatments that help stimulate your skin to make more of its own natural collagen. Once injected, the microparticles are absorbed, and collagen production begins gradually over time.
Sculptra® is used to correct shallow to deep wrinkles and folds on the face. Administered with the appropriate injection technique from a trained specialist, Sculptra® is clinically approved for:
+ Deep folds between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), also called "smile lines"
+ Lines framing the mouth (marionette lines)
+ Chin wrinkles
On average, a series of three treatment sessions over the course of a few months may be needed. The number of injections at each session will vary, depending on the degree of correction needed and the treatment plan determined by you and your specialist.
Sculptra® is designed to give you noticeable results that emerge gradually and can last more than two years. Don't be disappointed if you don't see immediate results. A few days after treatment, you may look as you did before treatment. This is normal and temporary. The Sculptra® regimen delivers its full effect with an average of three treatment sessions over the course of a few months. Because results happen gradually, you'll see subtle, yet noticeable, results in the reduction of facial wrinkles and folds by comparing images before treatment and a couple of months following treatment.
If there are no complications, you may apply makeup several hours after treatment. Be sure to consult your doctor after treatment.
Since injection costs will vary from person to person, the best way to determine projected costs is to have a customized complimentary consultation. Usually, 2-3 sessions are necessary. Sessions are typically 6-8 weeks apart.
Comparing the cost of facial rejuvenation options can be challenging because so much depends on desired results, the amount of product your provider recommends, your response to treatment, and the amount of time the results last.
For example, though a facial dermal filler treatment may cost less upfront, the dermal filler will generally require additional treatment sessions to maintain the effect for the same duration as one longer-lasting Sculptra treatment. You may want to take into consideration, the total cost over time.
+ Massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times per day for 5 days after your treatment, according to your provider's advice
+ Within the first few hours after your treatment, apply an icepack or ice wrapped in a cloth (avoid putting ice directly on your skin) to the treatment area to help reduce swelling
+ You may apply make-up a few hours after your Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment if no complications are present
+ Avoid sun and UV sunlamp exposure until swelling and redness have disappeared
+ Report any worsening or longer-lasting signs or symptoms to your provider
Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, which work immediately upon injection to fill in lines, wrinkles, and folds, Sculptra® is made from Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which helps stimulate your skin’s own natural collagen production over time, helping to reinforce skin’s inner structure and increase facial volume that has been lost to aging. PLLA is a biodegradable substance that has been proven safe and has been used in medical products, including dissolvable sutures, for more than 30 years. It contains no animal by-products or human DNA.
The typical treatment regimen for Sculptra® consists of three injections over three to four months. Results appear gradually over a period of a few months and are long-lasting, more than two years. In contrast, HA fillers last until the HA is absorbed by the body and excreted (typically 6 to 12 months after injection).
If you want to appear more youthful-looking — without appearing like you’ve had work done — then chances are Sculptra® may be a good choice for you. Neurotoxins such as Dysport®, Restylane®, and Botox® can provide dramatic results in reducing lines. Restylane® hyaluronic fillers also reverse the signs of aging by filling in deep folders to take years off your face while still looking natural. However, neurotoxins and fillers are sometimes not enough. Through weight loss, aging, or other factors, some people lack the structure, support, and volume in their face that’s necessary for fillers to make the desired difference in their appearance. These patients need a “framework” to which hyaluronic acid fillers can be layered on top. Men and women of any age can have success with Sculptra if they are concerned with hollowness and/or loss of volume.
Collagen creams: Collagen creams do not fully penetrate the dermis, so most topical treatments are effective as moisturizers that briefly improve the skin's appearance.
Collagen Supplements: When ingested, the digestive system breaks down collagen proteins and their effectiveness remains inconclusive.
Toxins: Toxins temporarily weaken muscles to minimize frown lines in the forehead. Results typically last a couple of months.
Fillers: Works immediately upon injection to fill in lines, wrinkles, and folds.
Sculptra is made with biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid, which is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body and helps to rebuild lost collagen through a series of treatments administered by a trained specialist.
The specialist injects treatment into the appropriate dermal plane where strands of collagen support your skin's structure. Over time, Sculptra helps the body reproduce lost collagen. The number of injection appointments and the number of injections per appointment varies from person to person, depending on how much collagen has been lost.
